GRAINER ~ MARBLER ~ DECORATIVE ARTIST
EXHIBITION WORK.
When it comes to Professional Decorative Painting, whether it is Graining, Marbling or Trompe L’Oeil etc, historically there are two quite specific categories here in the UK. Lets take Graining as an example. There is “Trade” Graining, and then there is “Exhibition” Graining. Trade Graining is specifically reserved for actual on-site jobs of work, where the Grainer can give a highly skilfull, expert finish, at speed, which is also very cost effective for the customer. All the works featured elsewhere on this site are examples of my Trade Work. Then there is Exhibition Work. These are examples of the best work the painter can possibly produce. It reflects the highest level of work to which he or she can possibly achieve, within his or her capabilities. It is, in essence, how good he or she actually is. From Thomas Kershaw to Bill Holgate, any Craftsman worth their salt would have a range of Exhibition Panels, ready to be viewed by any interested parties, as examples of their best work. This for me, is the bottom line. It cuts to the chase. It is an actual, visual, material representation of how good someone can possibly be. Below are examples of the Exhibition Work I have carried out since I began my career in the Decorative Arts over 30 years ago. Some of the panels below took me many months to paint, even for a single panel. I have exhibited them many times throughout the UK. They have won me many accolades and awards. It is the best work that I can achieve. It is the very best I can do. All the work here below has been painted, by myself, by my own hand. All are a mix of Artists Oils & Acrylic paint.
